Is my child really ready to travel without me?
Almost all parents ask themselves this question. The good news: there is no such thing as the “perfect” age, but there is the right program. Whether your child is going on their first one-week camp in the Austrian mountains or staying with a host family in Berlin to improve their German, we support you and your child through this important step with experience, care, and safety.
The Benefits of a Language Camp
Individual Support and Flexible Programs
Our language camps offer programs tailored to children of different ages, starting from a minimum age of 6. Day camps are an excellent option for younger children, allowing parents to stay nearby or accompany them. From age 7, we also offer full residential camp programs with on-site accommodation. From ages 12 or 14 onwards (depending on the program), children can even stay with a host family. This flexibility ensures that every child receives individual support and a program that truly matches their needs and language level.
Immersive Language Experience
Attending a language camp in Germany or Austria places your child right in the culture and language they are learning. This immersive experience is incredibly valuable, allowing children to improve their German in a natural, real-life context. Daily language use in conversations, games, and everyday situations strengthens not only comprehension but also speaking confidence.
Personal Growth and New Friendships
Beyond language learning, our camps play an important role in your child’s personal development. Children learn to become more independent, interact in an international environment, and build new friendships. These social skills are essential for personal growth and have a lasting positive impact on self-confidence and independence.
More than just learning vocabulary: summer camps are where friendships are formed that often last long beyond the summer. (Photo: language students at the Munich Spitzingsee Camp.)
Varied Leisure Activities
Our camps offer much more than intensive language lessons. A wide range of leisure activities helps children deepen their language skills in a relaxed and playful way. Whether through sports, creative workshops, or excursions in the surrounding area, your child will experience the German language in engaging, enjoyable, and meaningful contexts.
Safety and Supervision
Your child’s safety is our highest priority. Our camps provide a secure, well-supervised environment where children can feel comfortable and supported. Experienced staff and qualified teachers ensure that your child receives not only excellent language instruction, but also personal care and guidance.
What makes a language camp truly safe:
- 24/7 supervision: Experienced staff on site at all times, including overnight.
- Emergency management: Clear protocols and close communication with you at home.
- Age-appropriate groups: We do not mix 7-year-olds with 17-year-olds. Children stay among peers of a similar age.
Why Germany or Austria? The Regional Advantage
Choosing the right location plays a key role in your child’s overall experience. A summer camp in Germany offers a wide variety of options: from vibrant cities such as Berlin or Frankfurt, to historic destinations like Heidelberg, or the perfect balance of city life and nature in Munich, Augsburg, and the surrounding region. Those looking for the special charm of an Alpine capital will find Vienna (Austria) to be an ideal mix of imperial history and intensive German language learning. Both countries are known for their exceptionally high safety standards and excellent infrastructure offering peace of mind for you as a parent, no matter which location you choose.
Frequently Asked Questions About Summer Language Camps
1. From what age is a language camp without parents suitable?
This depends largely on a child’s individual level of independence. In general, children aged 7 to 8 are a good fit for their first overnight language camp.
For younger children aged 6 and up, day camps are recommended. They allow children to learn and play in German during the day while spending the evenings with their parents.
Please note: Most overnight programs start from ages 12 or 14, depending on the camp.
2. Does my child need good German skills to attend the camp?
No, your child does not need advanced German skills to join a language camp. Entry is generally possible at almost any language level. One of the biggest advantages of a camp in Germany or Austria is the immersive environment, which helps children overcome speaking barriers much faster than in a traditional classroom.
Important note: Courses for complete beginners with no prior knowledge are not available at every camp. A detailed overview of the language levels offered at each location can be found in our current price list.
3. How safe is the supervision during the stay?
Safety is our highest priority. Our camps operate with a supervision ratio that ensures round-the-clock care at all times. All supervisors are pedagogically trained and experienced in supporting children with homesickness or everyday concerns.
Clear emergency protocols and constant availability for parents provide reassurance and ensure transparent communication throughout the entire stay.
