Frequently Asked Questions – Vienna Kids

What parents ask us

Where exactly is the camp taking place?

The camp takes place on the campus of the Theresian Academy – a historic palace in Vienna founded by Empress Maria Theresa in 1746. Lessons, accommodation and activities all take place on the secure campus grounds.

What is the difference between 20 and 30 teaching units per week?

Course 20 comprises 20 lessons per week (Mon–Fri, 09:00–12:20). Course 30 offers 30 lessons (09:00–12:20 + 13:30–15:00) and is ideal for faster progress or preparation for the ÖSD certificate. The leisure programme is the same for both options.

When can my child start?

Fixed start dates: 5 July (= 2, 3, 4 or 5 weeks), 19 July (= 1, 2 or 3 weeks), 26 July (= 1 or 2 weeks) and 2 August 2026 (= 1 week). Beginners with no prior knowledge start on 5 July or 19 July 2026.

Is there also a day camp without an overnight stay?

Yes – for families who already live in Vienna or have their own accommodation, we offer a day camp programme. It includes German lessons (20 or 30 teaching units per week), lunch on request, supervised afternoon activities until 6.00 pm, and optional dinner until 7.30 pm – all on the same historic palace campus. Prices for the day camp are available on request.

What is the ÖSD certificate, and is it worth it?

The ÖSD (Austrian German Language Diploma) is one of the best-known and most prestigious German language exams worldwide – recognised by universities, public authorities and employers in many countries. Young people aged 16 and over can sit the B1 or B2 exam. The preparation course costs €150 for 6 teaching units, and the exam fees range from €160 to €290 depending on the level.

What is the difference between Standard and Superior?

Standard accommodation consists of 4–6-bed rooms with shared showers and toilets in the corridor. Superior accommodation offers 2–4-bed rooms with en-suite bathrooms and showers – at an additional cost of €124 per week.

How does my child get to Vienna?

Vienna International Airport (VIE) is easily accessible. Transfer service: €60 one way, €120 return. From the main railway station: €53 one way. Surcharge for unaccompanied minors (UM): €130 (9 am–5 pm) or €160 (5 pm–9 am).

What happens if we have to cancel?

Our cancellation policy is fair and transparent.

If you cancel more than 4 weeks before arrival, a €200 administration fee will apply – the remaining amount will be refunded. If you cancel less than 4 weeks before arrival, further charges will apply – we’ll be happy to explain these to you in person before you book.
