Freiburg is known as one of the most attractive towns in Germany.
Situated in the sunniest part of the country, in the South-West between the Black Forest and the Kaiserstuhl, Freiburg's scenic attractions include mountains and lakes, vineyards and orchards. This position within the triangle of nations, France to the West and Switzerland in the South contributes much to Freiburg´s particular charm.
The city is situated in the heart of a major wine-growing region and serves as the primary tourist entrepot to the scenic beauty of the Black Forest.
As Freiburg has a university there ist a wide variety of cultural events on offer. In addition to the well-established municipal theatre, numerous fringe theatre troupes perform classical and modern works.
The picturesque streets of Freiburg´s medieval town centre are inviting to stroll through, while the market on the Münsterplatz is a daily meeting point. Freiburg provides a rich environment within which the German language and culture can be explored.

The Augustinerplatz is one of the central squares in the old city. Formerly the location of an Augustine monastery which became the Augustinermuseum in 1921, it is now a popular social space for Freiburg's younger residents. It has a number of restaurants and bars, including the local brewery 'Feierling', which has a Biergarten. On warm summer nights, hundreds of students gather here.
At the centre of the old city is the Münsterplatz, its largest square. A farmers' market takes place here every day except Sundays. This is the site of Freiburg's Münster, a gothic minster cathedral constructed of red sandstone, built between 1200 and 1530. The Freiburg Münster is noted for its towering spire.
Part of any language-training holiday is always the desire to get to know and to experience the culture of the region one has chosen. We have developed a leisure-time-programme which will suit culture- and art enthusiasts alike and which can be adapted to your individual interests.
We offer a historical sight-seeing-tour including a guided tour of the Münster, as well as many excursions to the surrounding areas, or even to the neighbouring Alsace (France) or to Switzerland.

We have a video night once a week, showing current or nationally relevant movies, and, weather permitting, we even have grill parties.
Cafés, restaurants, book stores and other shopping facilities are all in close proximity to the school.
You can reach all the important sights of the town on foot. For an economical way to get to those destinations that are further away, it is possible to obtain a discounted monthly ticket, the Regiokarte for students, which is valid for all public transport ( Bundesbahn incl.); ranging from Freiburg city to the outer regions of the Black Forest.
Seeing that Freiburg's inner region has few hills, it is ideal for biking. We therefore suggest renting a bike on a daily or even weekly basis. For mountain bike enthusiasts the mountainous areas nearby are preferable.
Hiking is possible ta all times of the year; during the summer period you can go for a swim in one of the many lakes in the area, and in winter there are many opportunities to go skiing or snow boarding-sports lovers of all kinds have many adventures to look forward to, and can combine their sporting-holiday with a language stay in the most comfortable way.

You can stay in a shared apartment, in a hall of residence (hostel) or with a host family for the duration of your language course. As a rule, the arrival date is on the Sunday afternoon before the beginning of course (unless its a public holiday). The departure is on the Saturday morning after the end of the course.
Shared apartments A single room in shared accommodation: You live together in a flat with other young people, often other students. Each tenant has his/her own furnished room whilst the kitchen, bathroom and toilet are shared.
You have the possibility of preparing your own meals. You are responsible for the cleaning of your room whilst the shared areas of the flat should be cleaned by all the tenants.
Private accommodation in host families Almost all families live outside the city centre (journey time to the school: 15 - 45 minutes). The majority of them live in detached houses and rent out one or two, or in isolated cases up to five, furnished rooms.
You will live in a single room, bed linen and hand towels are provided. You can choose between a room without meals, with breakfast or at half board. The bathroom is usually shared with the landlord's family and/or with other tenants; in isolated cases there is a separate bathroom.
Hotels If you wish, we would be happy to book a hotel room for you.
